I'm an avid watcher of films and I just love discussing and sharing them with the world. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mostly any genre under the sun, plus I have a slight obsession with Blu-ray's and the whole high definition craze.
Disney will be releasing the original Judge Dredd film, starring Sylvester Stallone on Blu-Ray in September, to prepare for the upcoming reboot titled Dredd, starring Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby.
21 Jump Street is surprisingly fresh and hilarious, with a hyper-kinetic sense of direction that makes the jokes stick and the acting memorable. This is a must buy Blu-Ray.
Joss Whedon's The Avengers is coming to Blu-Ray this fall on September 25th, 2012 in 2D and 3D Blu-Ray combo packs. The film brings together Marvel's mightiest superheroes (Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Hulk) to take down a universal enemy (Loki) and an alien force.
Wrath of the Titans rewards us for having to sit through its poorly made predecessor. It's full of expensive visuals, intense action sequences and even more ancient myths and creatures.
The FP is visually engaging and full of odd concepts, but not once does the film feel like anything more than a big joke. There's talent buried somewhere underneath all of the homages to The Warriors, I'm just not sure where.
If there's one film that lived up to all of the buzz surrounding its festival run, it would be The Raid: Redemption. Sony picked up the foreign flick and slowly started rolling it out, eventually leading to a nationwide release. The film is easily one of the most impressive of the year, with some of the best hand-to-hand combat since Tony Jaa's Ong Bak films.
I've seen the trailer for The Pirates! Band of Misfits exactly two times while at the theater in the past year. I've yet to see one TV spot or other promotional ad for it and I don't think I'm the only one. The film opened to a disappointing reception at the box office and quickly drowned among other 3D animated kid's films.
Every year there's a film like Think Like a Man that comes out of nowhere and surprises the audiences. The quality of the film is well-known before release, but it's the overall box office gross that shocks most.
Lovely Molly is the latest movie from director Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project). The horror film didn't stir up much fuss when it debuted at festivals throughout the year, but most of the promotional stuff was creepy enough to catch my attention. I've been told that the film is mostly shot straight-forward, with the found-footage aspect cleverly used when appropriate.
Another year, another Dr. Seuss adaptation for the big screen. This time Universal Studios tackled The Lorax, attracting the voices of Danny DeVito, Zac Efron, Rob Riggle and Ed Helms. The film was well-received at the box office and with most critics.
