The Human Centipede 2 [Full Sequence] Blu-Ray Review

Posted February 22nd, 2012 by Jeremy Lebens

Director Tom Six follows-up his shocking 2009 horror film The Human Centipede with a sequel that promises the “fans” more blood, poop and filth. The Human Centipede 2 [Full Sequence] stays true to those intentions, but that isn’t necessarily a good thing. In fact, that’s a horrible thing. What kind of worked in the first film doesn’t work at all in the sequel. There’s nothing even remotely funny about this film or Tom Six as a filmmaker. He proved the world wrong when they said he couldn’t make anything sicker than the first Human Centipede, but he also proved that he needs to stop making films.

Steven Spielberg’s War Horse Announced For Blu-Ray In April

Posted February 21st, 2012 by Jeremy Lebens

Steven Spielberg’s latest Oscar-nominated film War Horse has been announced for Blu-Ray on April 3rd, 2012. The horse drama that’s taking the Academy by storm has been nominated for a total of 6 awards. I wasn’t a fan of the film at all, but I can see where it might get some best cinematography support. The score was generic, the film was bland and the basic message about a boy and his strong bond with his horse was muddled and diluted thanks to Spielberg’s lack of primary focus.

Take Shelter Blu-Ray Review

Posted February 21st, 2012 by Jeremy Lebens

Take Shelter is easily one of the most under-looked films of 2011. Jeff Nichols directs an emotion-packed drama starring the always-great Michael Shannon as a mid-30′s average man who’s possibly coming down with severe case of schizophrenia. Jessica Chastain provides a more than serviceable effort as the wife who’s caught dealing with her husband’s sudden problems and her daughter’s current medical situation. Take Shelter is a slow brew into the unknown. Everything leads up to a powerful ending that opens up the entire film for one lengthy discussion, should you choose to have one.

The Rum Diary Blu-Ray Review

Posted February 20th, 2012 by Jeremy Lebens

Johnny Depp re-teams with some Hunter S. Thompson material for The Rum Diary; a film that’s not as crazy as their last pairing in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but it’s still a mildly entertaining change of pace for both Depp and Thompson. It’s entertaining because of its actors, but it fails because of its weak focus. It’s one part an alcohol induced trip, full of shenanigans and mishap and another part sculpting of a writer and how he fits into this world.

Tower Heist Blu-Ray Review

Posted February 20th, 2012 by Jeff Beck

It’s always a pleasant surprise to go into a film with one set of expectations and come out surprised at the result. Tower Heist looked as though it was a desperate attempt to bring together some comedic actors for a few laughs, and let’s face it, to find the last good movies that either Ben Stiller or Eddie Murphy have been in, you’d have to go back a few years. However, Tower Heist provides just this kind of surprise as it delivers not only on the humor, but also with its interesting plot.

Outrage Blu-Ray Review

Posted February 17th, 2012 by Jeremy Lebens

Takeshi Kitano’s latest film, Outrage, is a brutally violent yakuza film that deals with betrayal and self-preservation. It’s something that not everyone is going to be able to stomach, but fans of blood soaked revenge films done gangland style are going to eat it up. There’s plenty to enjoy in Outrage. It’s dark, angry and mean and those looking for a happy ending will be disappointed. Outrage is the kind of play-it-forward filmmaking that we don’t see too often and I applaud it for that. It sticks to its crime roots and provides you with an interesting tale of gangland killing and murder.
