The Avengers Stand Tall On Marvel Comics Digest #2 Cover

Yesterday, we reported that Marvel and Archie joined forces in a landmark deal, effectively bringing some of the most iconic superheroes around to big box retailers with Marvel Comics Digest. Set to kickoff in June by having its first issue focus on Spider-Man, subsequent installments to follow this year will chronicle the adventures of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Wolverine and the X-Men.

Now that we’ve established Spider-Man is set to grace the cover of this new venture’s maiden voyage, we can confirm that the Avengers will adorn the cover of the second issue, specifically Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, Falcon and the Vision, each in the most heroic of poses. And should you be one of the True Believers who hasn’t taken kindly to Cap’s recent Hydra turn, this offering will probably be more to your liking.

David Gabriel, SVP Sales & Marketing, Marvel Entertainment, had this to say about broadening the company’s readership base:

“The Marvel brand, for decades, has been cultivating a popularity that has recently exploded worldwide. Working closely with Archie, Marvel is beyond excited to continue its reach and exposure level as we offer our retailer partners, local comic shops and large chain retailers, a new, fun, and easily digestible way to dive into the Marvel Comics Universe and produce life-long fans.”

Although no release date has been given for Marvel Comics Digest #2, our best guess is that this series is a bimonthly when you take into account that three installments will follow June’s debut issue in 2017 and the plan is to release six of these annually in subsequent years. So, in other words, keep your eyes open in August.
