Batman #22 Covers Further Hint At Thomas Wayne Appearance

It’s not too often that I get overly excited for crossovers these days, but “The Button” certainly has my full attention. Set to include four issues of Batman and The Flash this spring, it’ll no doubt explore the bigger mysteries surrounding Rebirth, most obviously something having to do with the Watchmen characters.

Now, we’ve gotten looks at some of the covers for various participating issues, chief of which were the particularly eye-catching lenticular ones by way of Jason Fabok. Since then, the involvement of both Eobard Thawne and Thomas Wayne have been hinted at in subsequent reveals.

As of today, a couple more covers have surfaced, specifically for Batman #22 – a non-lenticular cover by Fabok and a variant drawn by Tim Sale – and we can’t help but notice that Thomas Wayne graces them both. Granted, comic book covers are often stylized misdirections, but this is becoming too hard to ignore.

If you’ve been keeping up with The Flash, you should remember that Thawne has escaped from prison and now remembers the world of Flashpoint, fully intending to take out his anger on the son of the Batman who killed him. Although we’re sure Bruce can handle himself, especially with Barry Allen at his side, we’re wondering how sci-fi this story will get and if, in fact, the Flashpoint Batman will end up putting in an appearance.

Batman #22 arrives in comic shops on May 3. In the meantime, be sure to check out a synopsis for the crossover below:

The Dark Knight and The Fastest Man Alive, the two greatest detectives on any world, unite to explore the mystery behind a certain blood-stained smiley button embedded in the Batcave wall. What starts as a simple investigation turns deadly when the secrets of the button prove irresistible to an unwelcome third party-and it’s not who anyone suspects! It’s a mystery woven through time, and the ticking clock starts here!
