Marvel Announces New X-23 Series

While we're sure that many of you enjoyed reading Laura Kinney's adventures as the All-New Wolverine, it stands to reason that a chunk of the fanbase will forever view her simply as X-23. Knowing this - and possibly having something to do with her onscreen counterpart being well received in Logan - Marvel will be rolling out a new solo series spotlighting the cult favorite clone this summer.

So, once the “Old Woman Laura” arc expires in the near future, expect for writer Mariko Tamaki and artist Juann Cabal to chart the character’s course for the time being. What’s more is that Cabal spoke of which supporting characters we can expect to see in the new series while relishing this opportunity in a recent discussion with ComicBook.com:

“It’s very exciting to work with a different author’s view of the same character you’ve been working on recently. I feel very lucky to be working with someone as brilliant as Mariko. She has her own voice and ideas, so the series’ tone is going to be different from All-New Wolverine, but you can feel her fondness and respect for the characters. So fans, rest assured! We’ll continue enjoying the Laura and Gabby (and Jonathan the Wolverine) we all know and love!”

Now, if you’re relatively unfamiliar with X-23, one can liken her to Harley Quinn insofar that she actually didn’t debut in a comic book. Instead, she was originally created for an animated series. In her case, it was X-Men Evolution, which was a wonderful show that ran for four seasons alongside the first couple of feature films. Suffice it to say, Laura’s involvement will forever remain one of its more obvious contributions to the enduring mythology.

X-23 #1 is slated to arrive in comic shops this July and as always, we’ll keep you updated on this and other major books to be included in Marvel’s “Fresh Start” initiative as more information becomes available.
