Marvel Teams Up With will.i.am For Masters Of The Sun – The Zombie Chronicles

By now, many of you know that recording artist will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas fame is no stranger to Marvel, having already played John Wraith in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But now, he’s doing what few others are given the privilege of, and that’s making the leap from screen to page with the freshly announced original graphic novel, Masters of the Sun – The Zombie Chronicles.

Before you say anything, I fully admit that the zombie genre is nothing new, but the singer turned author aims to put a different spin on it by incorporating elements of LA gang culture, “B-Boy-ism” and Egyptology. Being described as “the complete tale of a retro futuristic zombie thriller, mixed with action, suspense, and horror unlike anything seen before,” it’s certainly offering a lot of hype to live up to. As for interior artwork, that will be provided by Damion Scott (All-New Ghost Rider, Marvel’s Hip-Hop Variants).

will.i.am himself had this to say about his bold new endeavor:

“The Black Eyed Peas and I have begun a new journey. We’ve been working on this original story for years and partnering with Marvel to bring this book to life is more than a dream come true.”

As of now, plot details are a bit scarce, but this synopsis provides some clues:

Los Angeles is under attack from an ancient alien God sent to earth to turn its inhabitants into zombies. With a deep love of the Hip-Hop culture, Zulu-X and his crew go head-to-head with a nefarious ancient order to settle a score thousands of years old. What happens next can only be described as the perfect blend of ancient wisdom and street-smarts all rolled into one epic adventure.

Masters of the Sun – The Zombie Chronicles is set to arrive sometime this July.
