Capcom has done us all a favour by uploading a thirty-two minute long gameplay video for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, straight from the floor of Comic-Con. Despite the fact that it’s not great quality by any means, it’s a nice way to spend some time watching one of our favourite fictional enemies become digitized and debilitated by Umbrella’s special operative task force.
Comic-Con was great to gamers and it’s still giving us presents even though its doors have shut for another year. This time, it’s in the form of a new Soul Calibur 5 trailer, which shows off some new and familiar faces, all battling it out for their cause.
Something about this almost five minute clip from Andrew Garfield’s appearance last weekend at the Comic Con panel for next year’s The Amazing Spider Man awakens my inner cynic. Garfield’s a likable enough young star, and he’s on a major roll to boot. He’s certainly a better choice to play Marvel’s vaunted webslinger than Tobey Maguire but he lays it on a little thick here for my liking. Spider Man saved his life? Really?
Today we get the first peek at concept art from Alex Proyas’ upcoming Paradise Lost. Bradley Cooper will star as Lucifer in this epic project, based on John Milton’s poem of Adam and Eve and the war between heaven and hell. The artwork received an unveiling at Comic-Con 2011, and looks to be a rendering of Cooper’s character.
One of the upcoming television shows that really has my interest is Showtime’s Homeland. The network has kept pretty secretive on this one so far but at Comic-Con they released a 4 minute sneak peek and it looks absolutely fantastic. The psychological thriller follows “a missing POW (Damian Lewis) who returns home only to come under the suspicions of a CIA agent (Claire Danes) as being a sleeper cell turncoat.”
A developer diary for Gears of War 3 has hit the internet. Originally revealed at Comic-Con, the brief video shows off what we can expect from the upcoming AAA title that may very well have a shot of being Game Of The Year. The developers talk about the story and where the characters are at in the game. They tell us that this is the longest single player campaign that EPIC has ever produced and to expect a wide variety of locations.
Coming out of Comic-Con is the final trailer for what will undoubtedly be one of the summer’s biggest blockbusters, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Despite the fact that there is no talking involved here, it’s incredibly effective and very exciting.
We’ve already seen a short promo for the second season of The Walking Dead, but thanks to Comic-Con, we get a longer trailer giving us a more detailed look at what we can expect from the show come October. The first season, while fantastic in every regard, has been under appreciated by the Emmys where it deserved more recognition for its writing and directing. Hopefully next year the show will fare better though as season two looks to keep the same high tension and chilling zombie horror, which should please fans.
In yet more comic-to-film news, Deadline reports that the vampire-themed graphic novel Last Blood will be receiving the sliver screen treatment, with Simon Hunter set to direct. Taking advantage of both the current vampire fad and zombie mania, Last Blood will be a thrilling survival horror set in a zombie apocalypse where the vampires are protecting the last of humanity.
At Comic Con this year, we have two competing Snow White films. A couple of days ago we saw Lily Collins in the Snow White film from Tarsem Singh, and today we bring you a first look at the characters from Snow White and the Huntsman, which is directed by Rupert Sanders. This is the film that took ages to cast the particular role of the Huntsman before finally settling on Chris Hemsworth, after Viggo Mortensen and Hugh Jackman turned it down.
