In the new documentary I Ain’t Scared of You: A Tribute to Bernie Mac, the late comedian’s life is explored from the time he was struggling as a comedian, to the time when he eventually reached stardom. The documentary consists of old footage from his tours, clips from different movies, and interviews with actors and actresses with whom Bernie Mac worked on various films. Those interviewed include Cameron Diaz, Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia, and director Steven Soderbergh.
Rhonda McCullough, the widow of Bernie Mac, took some time to speak to us about the documentary and share her favorite memories of Bernie. McCullough also served as executive producer for the documentary and talks about her experience of working in that position.
Mario Van Peebles was originally set to just star in his latest film, All Things Fall Apart, before being asked to also serve as the director. In the film, Curtis Jackson, also known as 50 Cent, plays Deon, a promising, college football player who is getting ready for the NFL. All of a sudden, Deon becomes diagnosed with a deadly disease. The film also stars Lynn Whitfield and Ray Liotta.
Appearing in a dramatic crime film based on true events can be taunting for any actor, but for a young actress in her first major role, the job can be even more daunting. Eighth grade student Sammy Boyarsky, whose only other film appearance was a minor role in the hit comedy Bruce Almighty, is successfully showing off her creative, artistic side in the new crime drama Rampart. As a result, Boyarsky has received positive feedback for her portrayal of Margaret Brown in the movie, which was released by independent film studio Millennium Entertainment.
It isn’t easy making the transition from being the face of an uber-popular film franchise to the modern-day version of Peter Cushing, but Daniel Radcliffe is giving it a try. His latest film, and first major big screen outing since the final Harry Potter movie was released last year, is an adaptation of Susan Hill’s 1984 ghost story “The Woman in Black.” It also marks the fourth theatrical release from the recently revived famed Brit horror studio Hammer Films.
Prior to directing The Big Year, David Frankel had directed The Devil Wears Prada and Marley & Me, both of which were based on very popular novels. The nonfiction book, The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature, and Fowl Obsession, was one that was geared toward more of a niche crowd. That didn’t stop Frankel from creating a film about three men competing to see who can spot the most birds across the United States in one year.

Action-adventure films are immensely popular for their extensive stunts and expensive special effects, but not many entries in the genre can combine impressive imagery with emotional prowess. The upcoming film Red Tails, which features helmer Anthony Hemingway in his directorial feature film debut, does just that as it chronicles the heroic true-life story of the Tuskegee Airmen.
Filming a high-action adventure film that’s filled with a multitude of visual effects can be taunting for any actor, especially a young up-and-comer who’s never worked with green screens before. When the story is also rooted in history, and based on real-life men, the challenge dramatically increases. But Tristan Wilds, who’s primarily known for his roles on 90210 and The Wire, successfully made the transition in the new action drama Red Tails.
