5 Potential Gaming Sequels That Keep Us Up At Night

It's nearly June, which means that E3 2014 is almost upon us. As such, with butterflies in our stomachs and anticipation mounting, we're doing our best to help time fly by speculating about the games that will potentially be unveiled once the convention's curtains open on the 9th. This has, of course, led us to thinking about the games we dream about at night when we can't sleep, and has culminated in this very list. Read on to find out which five potential sequels keep us up when we should be sleeping, because we want to play them so badly. 5) Vanquish 2 I'll be honest and admit that I never expected to like Vanquish, as there's just something about mech games that tends to turn me off. Thankfully, a lack of anything to play led me to give it a chance, and allowed me to experience one of last generation's lesser-known gems. Vanquish is a fast-paced, balls-to-the-wall shooter that doesn't take any prisoners. It's also ferociously entertaining and incredibly visceral, which makes it a perfect candidate for a next-gen follow-up. Here's hoping Platinum Games feels the same way, and that a sequel is in the works, because we know that we're not the only ones who want one. If Vanquish 2 were to be made, it wouldn't need to be drastically different from its predecessor in order to please us. Hell, I'd sign up to play more of the same, because the first go around was simply so much fun. The most important thing would be advertising and getting the word out there, in order to prevent the project from slipping through the cracks like so many other good games have over the years, including its predecessor, which not nearly enough people supported. 4) Just Cause 3 Despite a debut that was more of a mixed bag than anything else, the Just Cause franchise grew into its own with its first, and hopefully not final sequel, Just Cause 2. And, with it, developer Avalanche Studios released one of the most outright entertaining and chaotic open world games we've ever played. Sure, Just Cause 2 wasn't perfect, but it provided us with a unique take on sandbox gameplay. Not only that, but it served as a vacation of sorts, which allowed us to explore to our hearts' content and cause as much chaos as we could possibly want, without having to worry about losing our damage deposits -- or our lives. In fact, its only real downside was the absurd amount of chaos it forced us to inflict before the final story missions were unlocked. Rumours suggest that a sequel is in the works, but there has yet to be any confirmation; something that we may or may not receive in a couple of weeks' time. Either way, we'll be happy as long as we eventually get our hands on another exotic Just Cause game. With the above said, there are admittedly changes we'd like to see made with Just Cause 3. While the last game was a lot of fun, the amount of chaos that it forced players to cause in order to unlock all of its seven main story missions ended up becoming absurd by the end. In fact, it seemed like we were constantly doing the same things over and over again, just to be able to see the story come to a close. Surely there has to be a better way of structuring the campaign so that we're not burnt out before its credits even fall, right? 3) Red Dead Redemption 2 Sure, Red Dead Redemption did a great job of bringing John Marston's story full circle, but there are other avenues for Rockstar to explore if it decides to return to the Wild West, the most obvious of which would revolve around Marston's son. We'll stop there for spoilers' sake, but if you've yet to play through this great game then you're missing out on something special and need to do so immediately. History is ripe with incredibly interesting time periods, but few compare to the Wild West's gun-slinging cowboys and blowing tumbleweeds. Furthermore, it's also one of the most under-appreciated and underrepresented settings within the gaming industry, which is something that we'd like to see change. A lot has been said about Red Dead Redemption and how great it was, so we won't beat the topic to death. With that said, it's still worth mentioning how surprising it is that we've yet to hear anything about a potential sequel. After all, it's something that millions of people would rush out to buy. Ideally, the follow-up we're dreaming of wouldn't be too much different from Redemption, and would continue to carry the grit and colourful nature that was present within Red Dead Revolver back in 2004. The setting could change slightly, and the mission structure could be enhanced with more variety, but nothing major needs to be fixed or addressed. Really, as long as quality continues to be key, and focus is placed on ways in which the series can evolve, the final product will likely end up being another masterpiece. I, for one, can't wait for next-gen sunsets, horse rides, campfires and tumbleweeds. 2) Some Sort of Bully Sequel Continuing with the Rockstar Games motif, another one of the company's games that is in dire need of a sequel is Bully. Quite a few years have passed since the game first blew us away on PlayStation 2, before being ported to both the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360, and we've yet to hear concrete details pertaining to a sequel. It's a real shame, too. Although it exists as Grand Theft Auto's less mature little brother, Bully is more than deserving of a follow-up, as it offers us something different to play within a relatively crowded genre. Prior to its release, we'd never seen anything like it, and the opportunity to play as a troubled boarding school student was too unique to pass up. Years later, it's yet to be mimicked, and we're left wanting. Bully 2 doesn't need to be set at the same school, or even feature the same main character. In fact, it'd be better if it didn't. Jimmy had his time in the spotlight, and it was a glorious occasion, but Rockstar should stay true to the formula it's created with GTA and create an all-new storyline and give us a different troubled child to explore it with. That way, time and age constraints wouldn't apply, and we wouldn't need to move on with Jimmy to early adult life. Please, Rockstar: Bring Bully back! 1) Fallout 4 Rumours have been circulating around a possible sequel to the masterpiece that is Fallout 3 and its follow-up, Fallout: New Vegas; however, no concrete information has surfaced. As such, all we can do is hope and dream that Bethesda is hard at work on another post-apocalyptic RPG bearing the series' iconic name, look, and incredibly helpful V.A.T.S. mechanic. Our hope is that Fallout's next instalment will take its series to new heights, through the use of a more state-of-the-art engine. That way, its developers would be able to employ improved artificial intelligence and add even more life to a series that thrives on immersion. Going further, it'd also be great if they could come up with an exciting and different location for us to spend upwards of one hundred hours exploring. New Vegas was thoroughly unique, but it's had its time, whereas Washington D.C. was interesting but sterile, and in need of a bit more personality. If Fallout 4 is indeed revealed this year, it has the potential to be E3 2014's most talked-about surprise. That's a bold claim, of course, but it's true given how wildly popular the series has become. So, there you have it, folks; the five unconfirmed, unannounced and purely speculative video game sequels that keep us up at night. If we could play them now, we'd be glued to our TVs and staying up late for an entirely different reason, but they're still just thoughts and pipe dreams that lay within our heads.
