Developer Ustwo has unveiled an expansion pack for its critically-adorned iOS platformer Monument Valley, which will introduce mobile players to eight all-new levels.

Entitled Forgotten Shores, the add-on is currently available on iOS platforms for an additional $1.99 and has been billed as a director’s cut of sorts, with the studio comparing the experience to “watching the bonus features on a DVD.” Moreover, Ustwo also provided a brief update on the status of the game’s Android version which will, according to the company, be available on the digital storefront sooner rather than later.

For those who have yet to delve into the visually astute title, Monument Valley is a minimalist puzzle game that takes inspiration M.C. Escher’s architectural anomalies — imagine the paradoxical, looping staircases from Inception. As the player, you are tasked with guiding Ida, a sprite-like princess, through the stark environments by swiping and altering the in-game perspective.

It’s a unique and challenging platformer that also harbours an emotional story at its core. Forget style over substance, Monument Valley balances both expertly and it’s a poster child for developers who strive to create a true and engaging pixelated experience on mobile platforms. So, news of more content, even if it is paid, is very welcome indeed.

Forgotten Shores is now available as an in-app purchase on iOS platforms, while Android users can expect Monument Valley to launch in the coming weeks.
