Using a meticulous pixelated art style, the story chronicles the adventures of the Argo9, a multipurpose ship sent to search for habitable planets that the inhabitants of a ruined Earth can move to. When Argo9 returns millions of years after its departure, mankind has somehow gone extinct. It's up to players at this point to guide the Argo9 through the depths of the flooded world, searching for clues about mankind's disappearance and facing hostile marine life. The game will boast an open world that players can explore at their own pace, as well as hidden ship upgrades to collect and documents that reveal more about the world's history.

The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human is scheduled for a January 19 digital release on PC, Mac, and Linux via Steam as well as the website Itch.io in both standard and deluxe versions. The deluxe version will include a map showing in-game boss locations, the game’s soundtrack, a digital booklet providing additional information on the game and its lore, and a set of desktop wallpapers. The game will be available for a discount on Steam during its first week of launch, costing $8.49 for the standard game and $12.74 for the deluxe version. Afterwards, the prices will change to $9.99 and $14.99 respectively.
