The latest trailer for Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation reveals some of the ways that the game takes advantage of the PS Vita’s touchscreen capabilities.

While most of the touchscreen controls seem like they would be better suited to simple button presses – For example; using the front touchscreen to paddle a canoe or the rear touchpad to pickpocket enemies – there are others, like the optional Chain Kill feature, that look interesting.

Chain Kill is activated by pausing the game, which then brings up icons over the enemies heads. The player then selects the targets using the icons, and then sits back as Aveline automatically takes them out with dramatic style. It is not something that I would want to do in every situation, but I could see using a few times as an alternative to normal combat.

The trailer also reveals that if players have both Assassin’s Creed III on the PS3 and Liberation on the Vita they can unlock an extra mission in Liberation that has Connor and Aveline working together. Once that mission has been completed players can go back to replay it using Connor, and give Aveline access to his trademark tomahawk.

Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation launches on the PS Vita in North America on October 30, 2012, check out the touch control trailer below.
