Bethesda Softworks and Tango Gameworks have released a couple of new screenshots today for their upcoming survival horror title The Evil Within. The Shinji Mikami directed game is coming in 2014 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.

Developed by Tango Gameworks, The Evil Within centers around Detective Sebastian Castellanos, who is in the midst of investigating a gruesome murder before he is attacked himself. Waking up in a mysterious land of death and madness, Castellanos must fight through his greatest fears in order to survive and discover the mystery behind the forces that attacked him and killed his partners.

These new screens, which can be viewed below, showcase your typical survival horror settings. Abandoned locales, bloody hands bursting out of a corpse and giant monsters wielding machetes are pretty much the regular for the genre. That doesn’t mean that The Evil Within looks generic or anything, mind you. The title is absolutely gorgeous and appears to be shaping up as of the more terrifying experiences to hit the market in quite some time.
