While not quite the new entry most fans expected, The Handsome Collection will bring both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! to current-gen consoles for the first time. Every piece of downloadable content for both titles, including the not-yet released content for The Pre-Sequel!, will also be included.

Besides receiving a fresh coat of paint, the HD ports will also feature 4-player local splitscreen multiplayer on both consoles. While not a huge addition, considering the fact that the franchise is already an online juggernaut, the feature has long been requested by gamers.

The collection will carry a cost of $59.99 when it launches in late March, but 2K Games also announced a special bundle for the bigger fans of the series. Limited to a run of 5,000 units, the Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition is a $400 collection for the most die-hard of gamers. Besides including the base game, the set will come packed with a remote-controlled Claptrap and 12 lithographs.

We all knew this was coming, so let’s not act like this HD compilation is a huge surprise or anything. It’s the main reason why I imagine that most fans of the franchise skipped out on the Pre-Sequel! when it launched last year. I’m personally looking forward to jumping back into the world of Pandora when this set launches, but I understand that some people may be disappointed that 2K Games didn’t announce a brand new entry.

We will continue to have coverage of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection in the lead-up to its March release, so stay tuned!
