In celebration of hitting the 10,000 followers plateau, Mass Effect 3 Executive Producer Casey Hudson decided to share something with his fans. The gift was an image of James Vega, a human Systems Alliance soldier who just so happens to be Commander Shepard's latest ally. He's meant to be the embodiment of a new player's mindset. This means that, though he's a decent soldier, his mind is not yet acclimatized to the in-depth and dangerous ways that the world's galactic politics work.
