The Cursed Crusade Begins This Fall For A Budget Initiation

Taking place during the dark and mysterious middle ages, The Cursed Crusade is a game from French developer Kylotonn and publisher Atlus. It tells a story of "salvation and betrayal," set amidst the era's gritty backgrounds. You play as a damned man who must fight his way back to freedom, using powers invested by his curse. Essentially, you look to turn into some sort of a devil-like beast and, from what I've gathered based on its latest teaser trailer (seen below), you also get to fight the devil himself.

“The game’s main characters are not heroes; they’re just men, susceptible to temptation, easily made to feel doubt and despair,” says Atlus’ Aram Jabbari. “The raw, gritty accuracy of many of the game’s historical locations is sharply contrasted by Denz and Esteban’s supernatural struggle to save their souls. Their affliction, the Templar’s Curse, threatens to accelerate their descent into hell, burning their humanity away as it engulfs the space around them in demonic flame.”

Our two heroes can fight cooperatively through the use of cyberspace, though those who prefer to go it alone can do that as well. Their partner will be controlled with the use of artificial intelligence, and will hack and slash alongside you without the need for controller inputs. As per usual, it’ll probably be more fun with a friend, especially since the game promises a ton of different weapons to inflict a lot more than cuts and scrapes with.

Gamers looking to join this harrowing crusade can mark their calendars for October 11. Prepare to deposit $39.99 into your local shop keep’s pocketbooks, as that is the ‘budget price’ at which The Cursed Crusade will be available for the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game reminds me a little bit of Hunted: The Demon’s Forge, to be honest. Though there’s the easy comparison there based on screens and footage, it also looks like this game has a chance to set itself apart by being somewhat interesting. It’s got a mix of hack and slash melee combat and role-playing elements, which could be pretty fun if done right. I’m willing to give it a chance and look forward to seeing more.
