When Dead Rising 3 was revealed at E3 2013, we were told that the game would support SmartGlass. Now, we’re receiving more details on how exactly you’ll be able to use your tablet and what purposes it will serve. Siliconera recently sat down with the game’s executive producer Josh Bridge, who told them that the SmartGlass will actually have an exclusive story as well as its own missions.

In terms of how it will work, Bridge said:

It’s part of an upcoming version of the Xbox SmartGlass app and will function much like the current version. After you launch the app, it notices that Dead Rising is currently being played, press a button, and in kicks our phone. It actually skins your phone to be like the phone from the game’s universe.

You’ll get calls from a character that are only on the SmartGlass device. So if you don’t have SmartGlass, you won’t get those calls from that guy. Which also means you won’t get those missions.

In terms of if there will be anything exclusive for those who use the SmartGlass, Bridge says:

We put some exclusives in the game for those who have a SmartGlass compatible device. There is a character unique to SmartGlass. His storyline is his own. And it interweaves with the main storyline. Without it, you’re not losing out on what the story is. But you’re getting more out of the game.

Personally, I think this SmartGlass integration is a neat idea and though I don’t think it will make or break Dead Rising 3, or any other game that supports the feature, it’s still a nice touch that will definitely add something to your play-through should you choose to take advantage of it.

So far, the third instalment in this popular video game series is shaping up to be quite promising. Though I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first two, I’m completely behind what the team has done for this one and I’m definitely eager to get my hands on it. Plus, the fact that it’s an Xbox One exclusive is pretty exciting.

What do you think? Will you be using SmartGlass as you play Dead Rising 3? Let us know in the comments below.
