After being leaked earlier this week, Cranky Kong has officially joined the roster of Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The grumpy old grouch will act as the colourful platformer’s fourth playable character, allowing for some unique moves and mechanics to come into play.

When the game launches on February 21st, 2014, players will be able to make use of Cranky’s cane, in order to do something that is called a cane jump. Essentially, it’s a pogo stick maneuver, which allows the older ape to hop over spikes in search of secrets, or boost upwards to reach high areas. He can also partner with DK for a kung-pow move, which instantly eliminates all enemies in the immediate area. This requires you to build up a meter with one hundred bananas, though, so it’s an acquired skill as opposed to something that can be spammed.
