Dragon’s Dogma and its expansion/ultimate edition, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, became sleeper hits for the RPG audience that bore witness to the demented endings. The first dozen hours felt aimless and unforgiving, but the boss fights and pawn system cemented Dragon’s Dogma as a personal game of the year. Fan appreciation for Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen has not yet dulled, but three years is a long time to wait for a PC port. However, that delay is almost over.

On January 15, 2016, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen launches on Steam. Given the modest requirements, any modern PC will put the following specs to shame.

Minimum Specs:

OS: Windows Vista or newer
Processor: Intel Core i5-660 or equivalent
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Radeon HD 5870 or equivalent
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Storage: 22 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX-compatible sound card or onboard audio chip

Recommended Specs:

OS: Windows Vista or newer
Processor: Intel Core i7-4770K or equivalent
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or equivalent
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Storage: 22 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX-compatible sound card or onboard audio chip

As you can see, there is a stark difference between the minimum and recommended settings. How far technology has come in just three years. For instance, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen supports 4K resolutions, 144Hz monitors, and 60 frames per second on the PC, as well as the improvements made to the base game.

Players will still grapple monsters, grounding griffins by attacking their wings, decapitating hydra heads before they consume teammates, or sundering poisonous chimera tails. But Dark Arisen fixes the fast travel system, adds armor and weapons, and mends the menus. The expansion included an extra end-game zone, too, where travelers battle Death incarnate. He harvests the lives of his enemies in a single swing, yet any damage that you inflict carries over to the next encounter.
