Electronic Arts announced today that The Sims 4 has been delayed, and will now launch worldwide for the PC sometime in fall 2014.

Rachel Franklin, VP and General Manager of The Sims Studio, commented on The Sims 4‘s updated release window in a press release, saying:

The Sims franchise has the best fans in the world and their passion and enthusiasm is at an all-time high. Those millions of voices will fuel our development process, helping The Sims 4 to be the most ambitious and the best game our studio has ever made. We can’t wait to see our fans reaction when The Sims 4 comes out in fall 2014.”

While EA never publicly announced the exact time frame for The Sims 4 — other than to say that it would launch next year — an 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission today reveals that the publisher originally planned for the game to be released “before March 31, 2014.” Electronic Arts is not expecting today’s news to have any impact on their fiscal year 2014 earnings, however, the delay seems to be more significant than allowing additional time for polish.

We will keep an eye out for any addition information on The Sims 4‘s new release schedule and let you know as soon as EA further narrows down its launch window.
