In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Aksys Games revealed that Guilty Gear Xrd Sign will be coming to North America on December 16. The latest iteration of the popular 2D brawler will be releasing on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

Set one year after the previous entry in the series, Guilty Gear Xrd Sign will once again feature the same hyperactive 2D fighting that has made the franchise so popular. Characters returning from the last entry in the series include the likes of Sol Badguy, May, Zato-1, and more. Arc System Works is also introducing one new combatant to the series, Bedman, who fights with a bed.

Additionally, the DLC character Elphelt will be available for free on the PlayStation Network for a limited time following the launch of the title. Brandishing a wide variety of firearms, Elphelt will normally carry a cost of $7.99 following the limited time offer.

The Guilty Gear franchise has always been known for its crisp animated visuals, and Xrd Sign is no different in that regard. Taking full advantage of Unreal 3 engine, Arc System Works have crafted 3D models that give off the illusion that they are actually 2D models. While the fighter will remain on a two-dimensional plane, the graphics will look better than ever before.

With a release date nailed down, Aksys Games has also revealed that Guilty Gear Xrd Sign will be available in either standard or limited edition flavors. The limited edition will include the Vocal Collection CD, Character Art Book, a Sol Badguy “FREE” keychain, and a box that holds all of this, plus the game itself. Both versions of the title can be pre-ordered through the official Guilty Gear site starting today.

We will continue to have coverage of Guilty Gear Xrd Sign in the lead-up to its December release date.
