Looks like the identity of the next Tomb Raider game has been revealed.
The next entry in Square Enix’s rejuvenated action-adventure series will be titled Shadow of the Tomb Raider, after Reddit user Tripleh280 spotted the game’s purported logo on a Montreal train. Square is yet to respond to the leaked picture (see below), though sources close to Kotaku claim that this is indeed legit, and follows up on both 2013’s Tomb Raider and action sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Per Reddit:
Though the picture is a little blurry, the logo bears the same style as previous entries in the Crystal Dynamics series, all but ruling out the possibility that this breakdown is related to some form of Tomb Raider mobile spinoff.
What’s interesting is where this photo was taken. Crystal is a studio based in San Francisco, indicating that Square Enix has elected Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex: Mankind Divided) to take the reins on Lara Croft’s next adventure. That’s merely conjecture for now, but here the Redditor known as Tripleh280 reveals to Kotaku that, “the page he was on talked about visuals. I’m from Montreal, QC. I was going downtown for work and I took a quick snap. I really would love to say more but other than the title, the rest was blurry from where I was.”
So, there you have it; the third entry in Square’s rebooted flagship is to be titled Shadow of the Tomb Raider. We’ll update this post if and when Square Enix and/or Crystal Dynamics release an official statement.
