Electronic Arts has confirmed that Insomniac Games’ co-op shooter, Fuse, will be released on May 28th in North America and on May 31st across Europe for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Originally, the title had been announced with a March 2013 release window, which makes its May launch a slight two month delay.

“Insomniac Games is known for delivering best-in-class weaponry that breaks the mold of traditional video games — and Fuse is no different,” said Insomniac Games’ CEO, Ted Price. “These Xenotech weapons further the innovation players will find in this unique, action co-op shooter. We can’t wait to bring Fuse, our first multi-platform game, to gamers worldwide this May.”

Fuse is a third person, four-player co-op shooter that centers around a elite squad of covert agents known as Overstrike 9. Players pick from one of the four members of the squad (Dalton Brooks, Izzy Sinclair, Jacob Kimble or Naya Deveraux), as they try to stop the terrorist organization known as Raven from using the Fuse alien energy source to start a “deadly arms race”.

Each of the four members of Overstrike 9 has their own unique skill set, and “Xenotech weapon” that they use during battle. Ex-mercenary Dalton Brooks can use a Mag-shield that provides portable cover while he shoots a blast that liquefies enemies. The teams medic, Izzy Sinclair, launches med beacons to heal teammates, or she can use her Shatter Gun to take out nearby opponents. Jacob Kimble is the teams long distance fighter, who uses an Arc Shot that shoots out charged bolts. Finally, Naya Deveraux has a cloaking device which can be used to get behind enemies and shoot “mini-black holes” that implode opponents.

Whether gamers play Fuse online or offline, they will be able to access a unified level progression system that allows them to improve their character’s skills. Fuse points, gained over the course of the game, can be spent within the system to upgrade their characters and unlock more powerful abilities as the game progresses.

EA also revealed a list of in-game bonuses that players can get by pre-ordering, which includes:

  • Four Hyperion Prototype Agent Armor Skins—Upgrade your agents’ look with four special, state-of-the-art armor skins discovered inside the top-secret Hyperion Base
  • Four Hyperion Prototype Weapon Skins—Customize your Fuse weapons with four skins based on each of the original prototypes developed inside Hyperion Base
  • Quickdraw Team Perk—Increase your damage with this team perk adding powerful Fuse elements to all one-handed weapons for all four characters in your squad

Check back with WGTC for more details about Fuse as we get closer to the game’s release on May 28th.
