Bored of looking after humans all day as Overseer in Fallout Shelter? Well, here’s some good news: you can now own your own digital cat and/or dog to spice things up, Bethesda have announced. It’s not entirely clear as to what benefits the presence of pets brings to the denizens of your vault – if any – but Bethesda says that both feline and canine companions will help to cheer up their owners.

Several different varieties of both animals are available, including German Shepherds, Poodles and Labradors to account for differing tastes. Just don’t leave them unattended – god knows how much damage they could cause to your carefully designed, underground safe house.

In addition to the new content, update 1.3 also brings with it some helpful changes and tweaks to help players in their role of Overseer:

  • Vault-Tec has received reports of some Dwellers not pulling their weight. Overseers are now authorized to permanently evict these lazy layabouts! Welcome to the Wasteland, slackers.

  • Bored with the same pickup lines and conversations? Dwellers have finally learned some new ways to impress other dwellers and the opposite sex.

  • Excessive tapping causing frustration when trying to clear out excess inventory? Overseers will love the new sell all options.

  • Dweller management improvements and new objectives should help experienced Overseers keep things running smoothly.

  • Even more Vault-Tec certified improvements and optimizations. Because you can never have enough improvements or optimizations.

Fallout Shelter was launched earlier this year for iOS, and released a few months later for Android devices to tie-in with Bethesda’s announcement of Fallout 4. The app quickly shot straight to the top of the download charts, and continues to hold that popularity several months later.

Interested in giving it a go? The game is free-to-download for all devices that support the aforementioned platforms. So, what are you waiting for? Go and build your own Vault!
