Setting up the fall of an icon, The Phantom Pain will fill in a missing chapter in Metal Gear Solid lore; that is, Big Boss’ decision to defect from FOXHOUND and his country. Set in the aftermath of Peace Walker and just prior to 1987’s Metal Gear for the MSX, Kojima’s heavy-hitter will introduce us to a grizzled, world-weary version of Big Boss, who struggles to keep a grip on the sprawling network of lies and deceit that threatens to instigate a nuclear war between the governing forces of the world.

From what we understand, the game director himself is currently piecing together an English language clip, which is likely to be the game’s launch trailer.

At long last, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will touch down on September 1, 2015 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Metal Gear Online, meanwhile, has been held back until October 6 on consoles.
