Sony’s popular LittleBigPlanet series has seen two PlayStation 3 releases and a PSP entry, and already has a Vita game scheduled for release later this year. All previous games in the series have focused on 2D platforming gameplay but that’s about to change.

While its existence was leaked last month, Sony has not given any details on LittleBigPlanet Karting until today. Developed by United Front Games and with input from series creators Media Molecule, the game will focus on kart racing in a fully 3D world, with the series’ traditional emphasis on creation, customization, and sharing intact.

Players will be able to create and share custom tracks for both racing and battle modes, as well as have the opportunity to modify the rules of the core game to create new modes and challenges. An announcement trailer has also been released, showing that some of the series’ trademark powerups, like the jetpack and grappling hook, will be making appearances as items while racing.

We will keep you updated on LittleBigPlanet Karting as more is revealed.
