Lucario Confirmed For Super Smash Bros. Wii U And 3DS

In a pleasant surprise, Nintendo has managed to squeeze two character announcements for Super Smash Bros. within the same month (King Dedede was confirmed a few weeks ago). The latest returning character is none other than Lucario, the popular Pokemon who made its first appearance back in Pokemon Diamond & Pearl on the original DS, and made its Smash debut on the Wii as a hidden character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Brawl.

Though precise details on Lucario are currently under wraps, the corresponding daily Miiverse post from director Masahiro Sakurai did mention that, “We’ve increased the influence of Aura this time, so a damaged Lucario is truly a force to be reckoned with,” possibly indicating that Lucario will be able to dish out stronger attacks the more damage it takes itself.

Unlike many previous character announcements, such as Dedede coinciding with the Japanese launch of Kirby Triple Deluxe, Lucario’s confirmation doesn’t appear to correspond with any major game release, as Pokemon X & Y released on the 3DS back in October. Despite this, it is nice to get surprise character announcements from time to time for this game, and I’m still personally hoping that next month’s release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze may mean the possibility of Diddy Kong’s returning. But, as Lucario has proven, characters can and probably will be announced at random times.

We will keep you updated on more news regarding Super Smash Bros. as it drops. In the meantime, enjoy the official site’s collection of promotional Lucario pictures below.
