The short trailer begins with Lara Croft speaking over drawn images of past explorers. Naturally, her dialogue is about those who live the life, and what drives them to keep going in the face of adversity. It’s “the only way to live” she says, and to her it certainly is. To us, it’s the recipe for great gaming – something that was proven by 2013’s fantastic series reboot, to which this is a sequel.

Things eventually switch to cutscene footage of Lara scaling an icy cliff. With her trusty pickaxes in hand, she painstakingly climbs the precarious sheet of ice with care, hoping to avoid disaster. The attempt at safety is all for nought, though, because it isn’t long before the shit hits the fan and our lovely heroine is forced to clamour for safety.

There’s no gameplay footage to be found here, which is certainly a disappointment, but that issue will surely be rectified come E3, as it’s expected that Microsoft will let us see Rise of the Tomb Raider in action during its Monday morning press conference. At least, that’s our hope.

Check out the trailer for yourself, along with the box art, then let us know if you’re as excited about Rise of the Tomb Raider as we are.
