Naughty Dog Offers First Hint At The Last Of Us DLC And Potential Sequel

“Keep your ears to the ground.” That was the takeaway from Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann’s Reddit AMA about all things The Last of Us. The Naughty Dog duo opened up the digital floodgates to allow the fans to ask any questions or queries they had about the studio’s rip-roaring success, which materialised in an interesting discussion about potential sequels, inspiration for the game and, perhaps most intriguing, the forthcoming DLC.

Here’s a brief snippet from Straley and Druckmann’s responses:

“News is on the way about the first DLC drop. Should hear about it this month.”

When asked what the creative team were working on specifically, Druckmann replied with:

”Currently working on single-player DLC. Talking about other ideas,”

Within this same thread, he also confirmed that characters will return in the game’s added content, which will open up speculation as to whether the game’s central and endearing duo – namely Joel and Ellie – will reprise their roles for the DLC. However, with a multitude of engaging characters to select – from Tess to Marlene, Bill to David – it’ll be interesting to find out which path Naughty Dog will lead us down later this year. Also buried within the lively Reddit post is a hint towards a potential follow-up to The Last of Us, an idea that the duo don’t rule out by any means.

“It’s possible. We’re playing with some ideas, but no direction has been set yet for the next game.”

With almost universal acclaim and over 3.4 million sales to date, it’d be difficult to imagine Naughty Dog not delving back into their rich, Cordyceps-ridden world. Now that the studio have divided their development team, the potential to continue the Uncharted series and The Last of Us franchise simultaneously is an entirely viable and downright enticing prospect.

In terms of news we know about, the studio confirmed prior to the game’s release that The Last of Us would receive three DLC packs in total; one story-related and two inclined towards the multiplayer – new maps, most likely. Naughty Dog is set to make an appearance at Gamescom and PAX later this month, so by the looks of things, we’ll have to keep a proverbial ear to the ground for a few weeks yet.

Tell us, what do you want to see from The Last Of Us DLC? Personally, I’d love to see them pick up the narrative threads for the character of Ish; whose arc we traced using the game’s artefacts. Indeed, would you be interested in a sequel to the game? Let us know in the comments!
