Microsoft will be in attendance at Gamescom 2016 – but not in a traditional sense.

Opting for a more intimate, fan-centric event, the platform-holder has confirmed today that it won’t host an Xbox press conference, and will instead direct those in attendance in Cologne to the Xbox FanFest experience.

With such a big push for cross-platform play via the Xbox Play Anywhere program, expect the show floor to be populated with the likes of Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Halo Wars 2, Armature’s ReCore, maritime adventure Sea of Thieves, We Happy Few, Everspace and Cuphead.

In light of this new approach, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg outlined the reasoning behind the company’s initiative: “While we will not be hosting a media briefing this year, we’re planning a new and more intimate Xbox FanFest experience for our fans across Europe and worldwide attending Gamescom 2016.”

That means Microsoft‘s presence at Gamescom 2016 is shaping up as so:

  • Wednesday, August 17 – 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. CEST (press/trade only day)
  • Thursday, August 18 and Friday, August 19 – 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. CEST
  • Saturday, August 20 – 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. CEST
  • Sunday, August 21 – 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. CEST

Gamescom 2016 is set to take place over the week of August 17. Stay tuned to We Got This Covered as we’ll be bringing you all the news leading up to the annual event.
