Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty! Now Available On PlayStation Vita

Well, there's sadly no brand new content to speak of, but the game's executive producer Bennie Terry had a lot to say about how his team have fine-tuned New 'N' Tasty's controls to work seamlessly on the Vita.

2014 remake of the original Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee – Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty!  – has finally been released on PlayStation Vita, 18 months after it hit PlayStation 4. That’s a rather noticeable gap in release dates, but has developer Oddworld Inhabitants made any sizeable changes or added any notable content during the interim?

Well, there’s sadly no brand new content to speak of, but the game’s executive producer Bennie Terry had a lot to say about how his team have fine-tuned New ‘N’ Tasty’s controls to work seamlessly on the Vita.

In essence, this is very much Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty — the same critically-acclaimed hit that launched on PS4 in 2014 and PS3 in 2015 — but it’s a refined, specially adapted version of the game that plays to the strengths of the mobile format, while still delivering that “AAA indie” level of polish our fans have come to expect.

For starters, we’ve reworked the controls considerably. Heaps of attention has been lavished on the individual buttons and sticks — tweaking the analog dead zones, doubling up the shoulder buttons and making sure that Abe always goes exactly where you want him to no matter what.

Finicky controls were a prime criticism for the original PlayStation 4 release of the game, so there’s every chance that the TLC afforded to this version by Oddworld Inhabitants could make it the definitive version.

However, there’s still one more platform waiting to welcome Abe with open arms. The Wii U version – which is apparently “99.99% complete” – is still on the way, according to a statement obtained by VideoGamer.

New ‘n’ Tasty for Wii U is next on the menu – it’s 99.99% complete and we’re just in the final stages of getting it ready for the platform. We hope to have news on a release date very soon. We remain committed to our promises to get the game out on all announced platforms.

Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty is free on Vita for those that already own the game on PS3 or PS4, but if you’ve yet to play through the excellent remake, you can peruse our review of the original right here.
