During this morning’s Nintendo Direct, Satoru Iwata revealed that DLC mission packs are coming to Pikmin 3. Starting today, you can pick up the first pack, titled Collect Treasure, which comes with four levels and costs $1.99.

In addition to that level pack being available, if you download the new update that was released today for the title, you will receive a free bonus level. There aren’t a ton of things better than free, so if you own Pikmin 3, I would suggest you get on that as soon as possible.

The update will also include a patch that will now show the highest score in the world when you are playing a mission in leaderboard mode, which sounds like a rather helpful fix for those who are into that sort of thing.

Nintendo doesn’t really do the whole DLC thing often, but when they do, they are surprisingly competent at it. While Sony and Microsoft have a tendency to announce downloadable releases and then wait a little bit before releasing them, the big N just goes out there and announces that the content will be available right away. Considering the Wii U could use all the help it can get, hopefully this is just the start of Nintendo’s DLC plans.

Pikmin 3 is, of course, currently available on the Wii U. If any new content is announced, we will be sure to have coverage of it.

For now, you can check out our previously published review of the title right here.
