In an interview with Eurogamer back in July, Nintendo boss Shigeru Miyamoto didn’t bother holding his breath about the prospect of a sequel to the critically-acclaimed Pikmin 3. Instead, he surprised everyone by stating Pikmin 4 was “actually very close to completion. Pikmin teams are always working on the next one.”
For those unaware, Pikmin has become a Nintendo flagship series in recent years, sitting alongside the likes of Mario and Zelda as a franchise that’s expected to see a new release within the lifetime of each piece of Nintendo hardware.
And just in case you thought the comments might be the result of a translation error, Nintendo later confirmed the comments: “We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present.”
