Kaz “RIIIIIIIDGE RACERRRRRRRR!” Hirai, Sony Computer Entertainment head honcho and the extremely happy man in the picture above debunked rumors that a successor to the PS3 would appear on gaming’s biggest stage at E3 this year.

In a roundtable discussion with a bunch of journalists at Consumer Electronics Show this week, Hirai said the following:

“Andy (House) is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3. I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that.”

That would mean the PlayStation 4 will release in about 4.5 years, in 2016, since the PS3 was released in 2006. Strangely, I’m okay with this.

I suppose a lot can happen between now and June when E3 takes place but I somehow doubt the man himself would say something this definitive without being sure.

What say you, gamers? Are you ready for a PS4 yet?
