Sony and developer Arrowhead Game Studios have unveiled the launch trailer for their upcoming co-op shooter, Helldivers, which will deploy for duty on March 3 in North America.

That’s a little ahead of schedule, as the studio previously dated the Starship Troopers-esque title for the summer. No matter, as Arrowhead’s sci-fi opus has been confirmed for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, taking full advantage of the ecosystem’s cross-play and cross-save features.

Set in a dystopian future where the remnants of humanity have been enslaved by an overruling, alien democracy, Helldivers will toss players into the thick of an intergalactic war, where they can either team up with three other friends or fight the good fight solo in a bid to save Super Earth. Granted, it’s hardly a premise aiming to reinvent the wheel, but what lends the game its raison d’etre is the emphasis on community, encouraging budding soldiers to join arms to take down the malevolent forces of the galaxy.

Couple this with the wonderful sense of humor — allies being crushed by their own item drops and evacuation units — and you have a twin-stick shooter that could easily carve out its own niche when it arrives on PlayStation platforms in only a few weeks time.

We’ll have much more information pertaining to Helldivers as we inch ever closer to its release on March 3 (March 4 for those in Europe). For now, tell us, are you looking forward to enlisting for Arrowhead’s space-faring adventure? Let us know in the comments.
