Sony’s push for game streaming may be receiving some help after a group of major U.S. retailers have lowered the price of the PlayStation TV.

Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop are leading the charge by changing the regular PlayStation TV unit from $99.99 to $79.99, as well as the price of the PlayStation TV bundle from $139.99 to $99. The price cut on Sony’s compact device, however, is not an official move from the company. Currently, both units are still listed at their original retail price on Sony’s official store.

With PlayStation Now officially receiving a confirmed subscription model, it will be interesting to see how sales look for the PlayStation TV moving into the new year. The push for streaming services continues to grow and the gaming industry seems to be no different.

The only question left to answer is whether or not Sony will follow suit and officially announce a permanent price reduction on the PlayStation TV. With multiple subscription services (PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now) driving the streaming initiative for the PlayStation brand, it seems that lowering the initial price of the device is the next logical step for continued growth in 2015, don’t you think?
