Nintendo’s latest Direct presentation all about Pokemon has just concluded, revealing, among other surprises, that Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are headed to the 3DS later this year. Much like previous entries Pokemon Black 2 & White 2, this new pair of monster hunting RPGs will feature a brand new story, as well as new forms for existing legendary Pokemon Solgaleo and Lunatone. The presentation also makes mention of a brand new Pokemon not previously obtainable being included. Could it be the Mythical Marshadow previously teased by The Pokemon Company? We’ll have to wait and see on that front.

In regards to the other big reveals packed into the presentation’s eight-minute runtime, Pokken Tournament DX, a re-release of the Wii U brawler for Switch, was announced for a September release, and features five brand new playable characters, including Darkrai and Empoleon – two roster additions originally added to the Japanese arcade version. Finally, Game Freak plans to follow up on last year’s eShop re-releases of Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow with the original Gold & Silver, release dates for which are due to coincide with Pokken Tournament DX.

Sadly, no mention of the long-rumored Pokemon Stars was made during the presentation, so it looks like Pokefans and Switch owners will need to wait a little while longer before the mainline series makes the jump from handheld to home console. Additional Pokemon GO details were also noticeably absent, but it’s likely that developer Niantic will make an announcement of their own in the near future.
