Capcom has been taken aback by the number of pre-orders recorded for Resident Evil Origins Collection, which sees both this year’s Resident Evil Remake HD bundled together with Resident Evil 0 HD – which is due to also release as a standalone product – in January 2016.
In an interview with MCV, Capcom’s marketing director Antoine Molant said that the company couldn’t be more happy with the results.
We are very happy regarding the Resident Evil Origins Collection pre-order numbers – they are performing above our expectations. While most of the pre-order efforts on the publisher side are usually focused around new, triple-A releases, this confirms to us that ultimately it is mostly driven by players. If you have a game they want to play, regardless of the price point, whether it is a brand new game or a remaster, the players will create the demand.
Resident Evil Origins Collection is due to release on January 22 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and is just the latest in a long line of remakes and remasters Capcom have released over the last year. Aside from Resident Evil, 2015 has seen remasters of both Devil May Cry 4 and DmC: Devil May Cry roll out on current-gen consoles.
The cherry on the cake, though, will undoubtedly be upcoming Resident Evil 2 Remake, which you can read about here.
