As the latest entry in the Final Fantasy XIII saga, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII may not be for everyone. As the latest entry in the Final Fantasy XIII saga, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII may not be for everyone. In a move to entice new gamers into purchasing the upcoming title though, Square Enix has released a new trailer for the game that serves as both a recap of the series so far, as well as a trip down memory lane for longtime fans.

Many gamers (including myself) have wonderful memories of the early entries in the Final Fantasy series, so it’s not surprising that Square would try to tap into those feelings in order to promote their latest title. The video works as more than a blast of nostalgia though, as it serves as a solid recap of the events of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2 for those who haven’t played either game or for those who want a brief recap before jumping head first into Lightning Returns.

Although I’m quite excited to check out Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII once it is released, I have to say, I definitely needed this recap in order to get properly prepared. It’s been almost two years since I played through Final Fantasy XIII-2 and certain details have slipped my mind. Thankfully, this video has re-acclimated me to the saga and reminded me of where we last left Lightning and friends.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is coming on February 11th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Did this trip down memory lane help build anticipation even further for the title? Let us know in the comments section below.
