The stats are in for the total number of sales Sony’s platform was graced with up to the week ending on July 2nd. Nothing particularly surprising in the money making leader boards at the moment and the usual array of new, semi-new and just plain stubborn titles are holding the top ten fort in the UK games industry.

The more observant of you may note the sudden return of Media Molecule’s creative toy box of mammoth community wackiness, LittleBigPlanet 2 in the charts. I must confess that I find the rankings far more revealing and interesting when we are few months past the initial launch of some of the bigger budget titles.

Realistically if a new game doesn’t sit in the top three for at least the week it hits shelves, it’s unlikely to get commercial success (and a sequel for that matter) later in the year. Seeing Black Ops continuing to hold its own despite Modern Warfare 3 looming on the horizon is quite literally staggering. Most studios are lucky if gamers even remember to trade older games back into retailers.
