The crew at Rockstar Games have decided to treat all the fans of gunslinger John Marston to a FREE helping of downloadable content for their hugely popular Red Dead Redemption.

The DLC is named “Myths & Mavericks and it will primarily be a a multiplayer expansion adding several new characters, including fan favorite, Landon Ricketts.  It will also include new maps for Deathmatch, Grab the Bag, and Gang mode, among others. All of this free content will be available in September on both Xbox Live and Playstation Network.

In addition, it was also announced that before the release of the DLC there will be a title update, due to popular demand, which will return the popular “Undead Overrun” multiplayer mode to its original setting.

Considering that DLC tends to cost $10 – $15, being able to download free content for one of the best games that we’ve seen in a while is a welcome sight for those still intrigued with the open-world western.

For those of you unfamiliar with the game, Red Dead Redemption is set in 1911 druing the decline of the American Old West, and follows the story of John Marston, a former outlaw, who is hunting down the members of his old gang. The game was developed by Rockstar Games and published by 2K Games. It was released last year for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

With the new release, there has not been a better time to pick up the game and experience the world of Red Dead Redemption if you have not already had the chance to do so. It is still one of the best games out there and well worth your attention.
