Rocket League Tops PlayStation 4 Download Charts For 2016

Rocket League has come out on top in the year-end tally of most downloaded games on the PlayStation Store, Sony has announced. Psyonix's vehicular sports title released on the console back in 2015 and has remained popular ever since thanks to its absurdly addictive gameplay. Several major content updates, including a slew of new cars, modes and arenas, have been released since then, the latest having marked the arrival of a Mario Kart inspired power-up system and an underwater map.

“Psyonix’s supersonic acrobatic take on vehicular sporting continues to delight — even though it launched in 2015 (free for PS Plus members, even!) it garnered more downloads than anything else on our network. Impressive!” says the announcement on Sony’s PlayStation Blog in its praise of Rocket League.

As for the rest of the PlayStation Store’s most popular downloads, DICE’s Battlefield 1 comes in at second place, with Blizzard’s hugely popular Overwatch charting at no. 7 and FIFA 17 just managing to secure a place in the top 10. Strangely, Final Fantasy XV comes in last at no. 20, although its late release largely accounts for that.
