Ahead of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed event tomorrow, leaked promotional material and assets have seemingly confirmed recent rumors claiming the next installment in the franchise will be a pirate-themed game, titled Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

An anonymous source provided Kotaku with the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag marketing poster pictured above, and noted that it is scheduled to go up “on store walls on Monday, March 4”. The poster clearly shows a assassin on what appears to be a raider-filled ship, with a traditional black pirate flag flying in the background.

While Kotaku was not proved with any additional information, Examiner is claiming to have obtained both a screenshot from Black Flag and the first details about the game. While the image (posted in the gallery below) doesn’t reveal much, the report offers several unconfirmed details about the unannounced game.

Assuming the report is legitimate, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be a prequel to Assassin’s Creed III and feature Edward Kenway (father of ACIII‘s Haytham Kenway) as the main protagonist. Edward is a known “Privateer, Assassin and occasional pirate”, who operates out of the following Caribbean islands; Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas.

Examiner also claims that the game is currently “running on the Xbox 360”, but Ubisoft is planning to port it to the next generation Xbox and PlayStation as well. No mention was made of a PS3, Wii U, or PC version.

The first mention of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag came from a Reddit user who posted the following unconfirmed account earlier this month.

“I just posted this in r/gaming but was told of this subreddit. Anyway, I was on a flight where the lady in the row in front of me was working on a powerpoint presentation on marketing strategies of several gaming titles. And one that stood out the most was AC4: Black Flags, aimed for release 2013 Holiday season according to her slide. It already had a cool looking logo for it.”

Officially, we know that Ubisoft is working on a new AC title that will be released sometime between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed during an earnings call that it will feature “an all-new Assassin’s Creed hero, within an all new team and time period”.

Check out all the “leaked” Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag materials in the gallery below, and let us know your thoughts on the unconfirmed game in the comments. We will keep an eye out for any official word from Ubisoft and let you know as soon as they make any announcements.
