Run SackBoy! Run! Announced For PS Vita And Mobile Devices

Endless runners are endless fun, no? Hey, don't be so negative; that Rayman one was actually pretty enjoyable. Sony revealed today via the PlayStation Blog that a LittleBigPlanet-themed runner called Run Sackboy! Run! is coming soon for mobile platforms, and you can bet there are plenty of bubbles to collect, levels to unlock, and gear to buy. Are microtransactions part of the equation? It's not yet clear. But it certainly sounds like a good fit.

Endless runners are endless fun, no? Hey, don’t be so negative; that Rayman one was actually pretty enjoyable.

Sony revealed today via the PlayStation Blog that a LittleBigPlanet-themed runner called Run Sackboy! Run! is coming soon for mobile platforms, and you can bet there are plenty of bubbles to collect, levels to unlock, and gear to buy. Are micro-transactions part of the equation? It’s not yet clear. But it certainly sounds like a good fit.

Tom O’Connor of Sony XDev Europe (the folks working on the game) is calling it a “platform-survival game,” and to be fair, it does seem substantially more fleshed out than your average runner for mobile platforms. Run Sackboy! Run! will have the ability to connect to LittleBigPlanet 3 on PS3 and PS4, allowing the player to unlock costumes in the console versions that wouldn’t otherwise be available. All the more reason to plunk down this app’s asking price, right? Right.

The game’s primary baddie is the “Negativitron,” an evil vacuum cleaner who eats creativity for breakfast (that’s not a witty commentary by me, but the actual official description). Run Sackboy! Run! controls via “simple tap and swipe gestures,” and Sackboy will traverse three classic LPB worlds on his quest to put the deadly cleaning tool out of commission. These include The Gardens, The Canyons, and Avalonia respectively, and according to the blog post, the game will require quick reflexes despite its wide appeal.

As mentioned, bubbles are currency in the world of Run Suckboy! Run!, and they can be used to purchase upgrades and costumes, each of which have their own unique score multipliers built in.  Power-ups include jet packs, shields, hyper-powered magnets, and more, so the series’ classic silliness is clearly still intact. The graphics don’t look half bad either.

Run Sackboy! Run! is scheduled to release in October for Vita, iOS, and Android, so grabbing it along with your purchase of LittleBigPlanet 3 shouldn’t be much of a problem. Just be sure not to blow all of your holiday gaming cash on new costumes and hats.
