United Front Games took the road less travelled when it announced online open world actioner Triad Wars in lieu of Sleeping Dogs 2.

Built as a spinoff of the Sleeping Dogs universe rooted in the neon-drenched and crime-ridden streets of Hong Kong, the free-to-play title never really got going in earnest and today, the developer mapped out plans to take the game offline.

Having been in closed beta for over a year now, it would seem that the majority of players will never get to play Triad Wars in its final form, with plans now in place to take the offshoot down on January 20. As was revealed by United Front Games on its official page, players who purchased Gold – the in-game currency – will be entitled to seek out refunds by contacting customer support.

Since the start of the Triad Wars Closed Beta this year, diligent Enforcers have run rampant through the streets of Hong Kong, killing rivals and building Empires. During this time we have gathered immense amounts of feedback, information, and data on the game.

We’ve loved seeing how you’ve played Triad Wars but we know it wasn’t right for many of you so we’re letting you know today that we are going to close the beta and service on 20th January 2016 at 12pm Pacific Standard Time. That’s four weeks from today and over this time we’re going to leave the game up and running for you to continue to enjoy but we will not be accepting any more purchases.

To help you enjoy these final four weeks we’re going to make Gold available free of charge and we’ll shortly be posting news on the forums about how to deal with refunds of unused Gold. Thank you very much for all the testing, feedback and support!

Triad Wars is likely to go down as a flash in the pan for United Front Games, but are you disappointed to see the game close its doors?
