As part of their Xbox Live Games With Gold promotion, Microsoft will be letting us download Sleeping Dogs and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for free, starting in January.

The first one available for download (starting January 1st) will be Sleeping Dogs, the open world action title from United Front Games. Released in 2012, it places you into the shoes of Detective Wei Shen, as he is sent deep undercover into a Triad gang. The game received praise for its unique setting, brutal combat system and storyline. You can read our review of Sleeping Dogs right here.

Starting on January 16th, gamers can download Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light, a co-op based iteration of the popular Tomb Raider franchise. You and a buddy will be able to play as Lara Croft and Totec, a 2,000 year old Mayan warrior, as they try to stop the evil Xolotl. The title received much critical acclaim when it was released and currently holds an 85% rating on Metacritic.

One of the major criticisms of the Games With Gold promotion so far has been the lack of recent titles made available. Sure, Halo 3 and Crackdown are solid games, but they aren’t exactly new. Microsoft has apparently decided to act on some of this concern by releasing Sleeping Dogs and, to a lesser extent, Lara Croft. Personally, I don’t own either title, so I look forward to trying out both come January.
