From Software has dug deep to summon forth a series of brand new screenshots for its upcoming RPG sequel, Dark Souls III.

Dusting off the cobwebs and shining a spotlight on some of the game’s key features, the images feature all-new looks at the summoning system, towering monstrosities and the magic you’ll channel to defeat them. It’s a rundown of the franchise’s greatest hits, really, and the stills only have us more excited to return to the studio’s dark fantasy world early next year.

Out of all the classes included in Dark Souls III only Herald of White, the Academy Assassin, the Northern Warrior, and the Wandering Knight have been unveiled, and we readily expect From to showcase more of the remainder character types in the build-up to release. Beyond that, there’s also the return of the drop-in/drop-out co-op feature – a saving grace, if you’re stuck on a particularly nasty boss fight – while invasions by other players also feature.

Earlier this year, From Software birthed a new IP in the form of Bloodborne – the leaner, meaner cousin to the Dark Souls series. Doubling down on the gothic Victorian setting, the studio’s PlayStation 4 exclusive introduced refined gameplay and a faster, more agile combat system. What’s interesting now is that, thanks to the return of Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, Souls fans can expect some cross-pollination between the two franchises, with early reports confirming that Dark Souls III will indeed feature a much more responsive combat system than previous entries in the series – rejoice!

Dark Souls III has been pegged for an April release across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
