Dontnod is ready to conclude the poignant, time-bending story of Chloe and Max late next month, after publisher Square Enix revealed today that Life is Strange Episode 5: Polarized will release across console platforms and PC on October 20.

That release date is by no means final, according to the developer, who noted that it made the announcement earlier than usual in order to commemorate Max’s birthday. Setting a tentative target of late October is still achievable, however, with Dontnod’s Producer Luc revealing that development is “almost completed.”

We don’t normally announce a date until we know the game is 100% ready but in the spirit of Max’s birthday (today) we wanted to let you know early that we are aiming to release Episode 5 ‘Polarized’ October 20.

Many things can change in the lead up to release but the team are working really hard to try and hit this date. We know the wait may be a bit longer than some of you were hoping for but we want to ensure Episode 5 is the best it can be.

Acting as the season finale of Life is Strange, Polarized is primed to pick up directly after the shocking events of July’s Dark Room episode, with the studio aiming to create a fitting and memorable conclusion.

This doesn’t necessarily signal the end of the series itself, though, with both Square and Dontnod revealing their interest in continuing Life is Strange on into season 2. Such a decision will naturally hinge on how well the entire season performs financially, but with one million copies sold to date, we’d hazard a guess that a sophomore outing is highly likely.

Life is Strange Episode 5: Polzarized is slated to release across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on October 20.
