Bargain hunters rejoice: the Steam Winter Sale has started today, and it's certainly kicked off with a bang. Steam's news release offers gamers a tease of what's to come, and makes some impressive promises about the scope of this year's festive discounts.

Bargain hunters rejoice: the Steam Winter Sale has started today, and it’s certainly kicked off with a bang. Steam’s news release offers gamers a tease of what’s to come, and makes some impressive promises about the scope of this year’s festive discounts.

The poster for day one of the sale – which you can see below – confirms some of the biggest names on offer at cut prices, with franchises like The Witcher and Metal Gear Solid proving to be some of the most notable and inviting inclusions.

Valve explain that the sale – which is due to finish on January 4th – will include “discounts on thousands of games and software” as well as offering some exclusive Winter trading cards. The event also includes the first-ever Steam Sale comic, Gingerbread Jake In: North Pole Noir, with a new page of the comic revealed every day.
