Toy Soldiers: War Chest Brings War And Rainbows Together

Toy Soldiers: War Chest Brings War And Rainbows Together

Today, Ubisoft and Signal Studios took full advantage of the pre-gamescom buzz, by revealing Toy Soldiers: War Chest, a sequel that is noticeably more upbeat than those that came before it. Then again, I can’t remember seeing rainbows, unicorns and childhood toys in any sort of war-themed video game before.

Coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in “Early 2015,” War Chest pits four armies against each other in confined, diorama-based warfare. The kicker is that this isn’t a traditional, man-versus-man conflict, but one that involves colourful toys and bubbles instead. That’s just one of the title’s four armies, though, and only two have been revealed so far. The remaining couple will not be detailed until closer to launch.

The game’s debut trailer is certainly an interesting one, which brings back memories of the previous Toy Soldiers games, before ditching tradition for hot pink and happy dances. That’s when the stark and WWI-inspired German forces are juxtaposed by the introduction of a pink-haired, purple clad girl, who’s more interested in being happy than wearing a frown. Her look, as well as her candy and bubble-inspired weaponry, show a distinct change in the tactical tower defence series.

As a big fan of Toy Soldiers: Cold War, I cannot wait to get my hands on Toy Soldiers: War Chest.

Stay tuned for more information pertaining to the game as it develops.

Dominate the Battlefield with Four Fantastical Toy Armies

MONTREAL, CANADA — August 11, 2014 — Today, Ubisoft® and Signal Studios announced Toy Soldiers: War Chest, the next iteration in the Toy Soldiers series. Leaving the battlefields of past eras behind, players face off against rival toy armies to determine who rules the battlefield. Toy Soldiers: War Chest will be available for download on Xbox One, video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Windows PC in early 2015.

“Partnering with Ubisoft presented an opportunity to create the Toy Soldiers game we had always envisioned,” said D.R. Albright III, founder of Signal Studios. “Gamers of all ages can play as and face off against toys familiar to them from their childhoods to recreate the battles from their imaginations. Fans will have a great time learning how each army plays and the individual strengths of their troops and weapons.”

Four diverse armies will be available at launch. The proud and disciplined Kaiser returns to lead his German Empire forces and defend their reign with new troops, weapons and turrets. New to the franchise is the Star Power army led by the whimsical but dangerous heroine, Starbright – her army of unicorn steeds, ferocious pixies, flying Pegasus and laser-shooting teddy bears have come to rain hearts and rainbows of destruction onto the battlefield. Each army defends with its own unique base turrets, combat and aerial attack vehicles and army units, making each gameplay experience distinct. Two additional armies in Toy Soldiers: War Chestwill be revealed closer to launch.

With more heroes, missions and playable armies than any previous Toy Soldiers, Toy Soldiers: War Chest is the most expansive title to date. Additional features in the game include more turrets and turret upgrades, more barrages, new game modes and expanded multiplayer and cooperative play.

“We are big fans of Toy Soldiers, which is a consistent top performer of digital arcade titles. We are proud to help create the next iteration in the franchise and bring Toy Soldiers to more platforms and more players than ever before,” said Chris Early, vice president of digital publishing, Ubisoft. “Toy Soldiers is a unique blend of tower defense and strategy, and Toy Soldiers: War Chest makes the toy box eternal, letting gamers face off against rival toys and friends to determine which army will reign victorious. There’s something very satisfying about combining strategy with seriously fun gameplay, like taking out the Kaiser’s troops with a laser-shooting teddy bear.”
